Why most trade businesses lose the leads they already paid for
More ads is rarely the fix. The leak is between the enquiry and the call back, and it is usually a missed call, an unchecked inbox or a quote nobody chased.
When an owner says the ads did not work, the first thing worth checking is not the ads. It is what happened in the hour after each enquiry. In most small trade businesses the answer is uncomfortable: the phone rang while someone was working, the form went to an inbox checked at night, and the quote went out without a follow-up date.
The four places a lead goes missing
1. The missed call
A large share of calls to a working tradie go unanswered, and many callers do not leave a voicemail. They ring the next business on the list. A missed-call text-back, an SMS that fires within seconds of the missed call, holds the lead until you can ring back. It is the cheapest fix in this article and it is usually the first thing we switch on.
2. The inbox nobody checks on site
Website forms and Facebook messages pile up during the day. By evening the person has had two other quotes. Route every enquiry into one pipeline, trigger an automatic reply with a realistic callback time, and notify the owner by SMS.
3. The quote with no follow-up date
Quotes are expensive to produce and most are never chased. A simple sequence, day two, day five, day ten, in your own words, with a reason-lost question at the end, recovers jobs you have already done the work to win.
4. The job that never asks for the next one
Review requests and repeat reminders are revenue you have already earned. If they depend on memory, they do not happen.
What this looks like as a system
Ads and search feed a CRM. The CRM texts back instantly, alerts the owner, follows up quotes on a schedule and asks for the review when the invoice is paid. An AI voice agent can answer the calls that would have gone to voicemail. None of this needs more ad spend, and all of it makes the ad spend you already have work harder.
Fix the follow-up before you buy more enquiries. Otherwise you are paying twice for the same lost job.
If you want to see where your own leads are leaking, bring a month of enquiries to a call and we will map it in half an hour.
